Ministries Reaffirm their Commitment to the EBR

In 2014, Premier Wynne reaffirmed her government’s commitment to the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR). This past December, I wrote to the Deputy Ministers of the 14 ministries prescribed under the EBR inviting them to do the same. Why? Because a written commitment sends an important signal to the public that the ministry intends to make the EBR matter. It shows that the ministry plans to help re-establish the Environmental Registry as a source of timely, relevant information that the public can rely on.

I am pleased to share that all 14 ministries have sent us their EBR commitment letters, and you can read them by clicking the links below. These renewed ministry commitments are a first step in making the EBR more effective. Later this year, my office will start publishing scorecards of ministries’ EBR performance, which will help me fulfil my legislative mandate to report on ministry compliance with this important legislation. Check our website soon for more information on that.
